With the presentation on “Banned Books,” as part of a reading project," 12th and 11th graders initiated an Open Gathering in the educational field of Foreign Languages. Karine Gomtsyan, a 12th grader, hosted the event and greeted the interested audience with opening remarks. She elaborated on the reasons why certain books are banned and featured "The Lord of the Flies" by English novelist William Golding as an example. Following her, Syuzi Melikyan and Maria Dishakjian presented "Animal Farm" by English novelist George Orwell and “The Stranger” by French-Algerian novelist and philosopher Albert Camus respectively and discussed the reasons behind their censorship. Due to the influx of questions for the speakers and time constraints preventing other scheduled presentations, it was decided to hold another event in May. This subsequent gathering will provide an opportunity for other students to present their chosen banned books. Read the blog post for details.
